They were the Church of Christ located at these different places; because the One Church or fold could not all be in onet place. Aged 26 years 3 months, and 17 days. Her disease was hereditary, quick consumption. During the grove meeting, she was visited and prayed for by some of the saints. She seemed to revive Much at the time, but the Lord lad use for her in_ His more im-mediate presence, and gently called her borne. She was firmly trusting • God , through her sickness. The night before her peacefadeparture she passed through a great struggle. Friends thought she was dying. But when all was over, she was filled with indescribable joy, and praised God aloud. She said Jesus andI ha- Ve had a great battle with satan, and the Lord had gained the victory. With wonderful tranquility of soul, she then bade all fare-well, and told them she was soon going home. All was peace. and she repeated-ly said she was fully Prepared to go home. And when the golden Sun began to paint the orient glory, the " more glorious dawn of eternities morn enveloped her ransomed soul. DEAR BRETHREN IN CHRIST:-- I would like to ask you a question, to anSWer in the columns of your paper. Namely, Are not all men subject to temptations, arising from the lusts of the flesh, as long as they remain in the body ? Yours in Christ. W. _ D. Rice. ANSWER yea " destroyed." Well that which is de- ' stroyed; will never subject us to tempta-tion: •- In the seventh chapter, Paul • ddrraawsa picture of the state he judged many of the Roman brethren were yet in. Namely, of the duel state. The law, or grace of God in the' heart, by regeneration ; and the' old nature, or inherited depravity still there also. The latter he calls the " flesh"— sarka, in verse 18, and " sin, that dwelleth in the," in verse 20. And though he per-, sonated himself . in the picture of this chapter, he applies the lesson to- the Re-man brethren in chapter 8: 12,. 13. And positively testifies that he, himself was at that time " free from the law of sin and death."- 8: 2. And in verse 13, he tells them plainly . that the existence of this evil element in us was not the moral state of the Christian : but that' " through the Spirit," received in adoption, they' should " mortify"— put to death, in other transla-tions—" the deeds of the body."— i. e., the " body of sin," or fleih. That which is mortified, and put to death, will not turb us more with his temptations. All temptations through the lust. of the flesh, necessarily end in the destruction of the flesh. " For the flesh lusteth agaiest the Spirit., and the Spirit against the flesh : and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."— Gal. 5: 17. Here are two opposites in the same per-son. One is the Spirit. of adoption, the other is the flesh. Now the question is, must we be distracted by this inward foe as long as we live ? Again we answer No. " And they that are Christ's,— have given themselves wholly, a living sacrifice to Him— have crucified ( put to death) the flesh, with the affections and lasts"— ver. 24. Here ends the fight with the flesh, and all his affections and lusts. They are not held in subjection, but crucihed ; not repressed, but actually destroyed. All these lord lusts, " are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rice. " Therefore hast thou visited and destroy-ed them, and made all their memory to perish."— Isa. 26: 14. Being dead, deceas-ed, and destroyed, how can they any more tempt us. As sure as Christ came to de-stroy the works of the devil, every base desire, and evil lust. is destroyed out of us. He saves to the uttermost, which makes a clean sweep of every inner foe. " Know ye not that ye are the temple ot God?" and " the temple of God is holy:, " Know'ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ?" " What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you?"- 1 Cor. 6: 15, 19. Will God. dwell with evil lusts in the same house? If our bodies are members of Christ then they must be as pure as Christ. There is positively no Jae, mor-ally speaking, in a crucified, wholly sanc-tified, and resurredted child of God, but the life of God, and of Christ. Every fee of the soul is put. to death, and Jesus reigns throughout the entire domain of our being without a foe, or rival. We are sanctified wholly, and preserved blameless in soul, body, and spirit until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The soul has no foes except the devil, and his agencies outside, our soul, body, and spirit. And He that is in us is greater than he that is Without. Glory to Jesus for this great salvation. Key,- and four of the saints and myself from this place went to that appointment in Darke Co. Ohio. They had not given out the appointment, lest we might not come, but praise God! we did come, and noised the , word around, and we had meeting Saturday night and . Sabbath morning, and at three. The Lord was with us, and we had a glorious meet-ing. We found two or three that are ful-ly saved and free from babylon, and sev-end others that have come out of babylon but are not fully cleansed. Oh how tho devil did howl and Writhe. They called us crazy, fools, and threatened to egg us:. We praised God through it all, and had victory in our souls. We had meeting at, Saratoga last Sab-bath a week, there was quite a shaking; five came to the altar, two professed sal-vation. We met again there on the 19th. of September. I promised them to pro-tract the meeting if. some of you could come and help. I think the Lord would do a great work at that place. ' Dear br- 3thren I tell you the saints hive the victory over the devil, in this country. I do praise God that the Work is going on with such power. I will arrange my busi-ness as soon as can, to devote . , all my time to God. The Lord has wonderfully blessed and anointed me by the Holy Ghost. Praise His holy name - forever ! Amen! Meeting will commence Oct. 15, and continue as the Lord wills. All come filled with the power of God, prepared to do a mighty work in the sal-vation of souls. —: o:— We bade the fond hearts adieu olloit . more on Thursday Sept 23d, and depart-ed for the field of battle, the time having come to open a ' Vigorous * inter campaign. Brother Speck and myself departed en-route to Pa., by way of Williarnston, where we were met by the saints at the train, with much joy. We proceeded to the house of Bro. George Butters, where the saints had gathered together from village and country, awaiting our coming. 0 glo-ry to God how happy were those dear hearts and ours to meet once more. Shouts of joy ascended to God who doth so won-drously keep His little ones from the evil of this world. Glory to His name We opened to them the Word of life, of which all were partakers ; after which a glorious testimony season followed, aIso the washing of the saint's feet, and the holy commun-icinparticipated in, by twenty of the Nest of the Lora. 0 glory toGod! " happy are ye if ye do these things." " If any serve Me, let him follow me, and him will my Fath-er honor." The next day we bade the loved ones farewell, and came to Detroit Mich. where we met Bro's. Frey and Declaire, and were with them refreshed by the Holy Spirit, as we talked, sang and prayed together. May God bless those two dear brethren and their companions, in that wicked city, and speedily send them help, that souls, yes, perishing souls may be saved, ere the eternal night shall come and seal their awful doom. That evening we took pass-age on the magnificent Steamer, " City of Cleveland," and crossed Lake Erie, from Detroit to Cleveland Ohio, where we ar-rived early in the morning, and came by train to Stoneboro, where we were met by Bro. Elder, and companion who were made glad by our coming. Thanks be to God! who keepeth us in all His ways. We are now in the, field, awaiting marching orders. Pray for us. Farewell JOSEPH. Please send a testimony for Jesukal ilt77$ 12011 • TUB nZW4 H. C. Wickersham. A. J. Shelley. • Lust means " carnal appetite," " strong desire," etc. The term flesh, has different meanings, and is derived from different words in the original. The word kreas, rendered flesh in Rom. 44: 21, and 1 Cor. 8: 13, signifies animal flesh. iSarx some-. times denotes our corporal body, as in Matt. 16: 17, Luke 24: 39, and many other places. _ More frequently it means the car-nal mind, or carnal nature. Instances, Rom. 8: 8, 9, 12, 13. Gal, 5: 16, 17, 24. 1 John 2: 16. There are natural and lawful appetites of our bodies, for food, etc., - that remain while life lasts. These normal appetites, and wants of the body, expose us to temp-tation. to their abnormal, and unlawful exercise. For instance, it is lawful and necessary to take food for these bodies, but yielding ' to the temptation to over- eat is sinful, surfeiting and intemperance. In speaking of the regulation and temperate indulgence of these natural and lawful ap-petites, the Apostle Paul said keep un-der my body." The sin- created, and abnormal lusts all being destroyed, be held the normal appetites and passions under lawful and holy restraint, so that the entire man subserved the holy law of God. - But the language of our brother's ques-tion does not properly refer to the natural functions of our body. " The lusts of the flesh," really means the lusts of the body of sin, the sinward bent of man's fallen, depraved nature. " Vainly puffed up by his fleshly— Sarkos— mind." "- Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot. please God."— Rom. 8: 7, 8. All these Scriptures are more correctly rendered in the Emphatic Diaglott, - the mind of the flesh." — sarkos. Here we see that, sarkos ( flesh) does not mean our corporal flesh, or body ; but is the depraved condition ot the mind. And as mind is not a faculty of matter, but of spirit, the fleshly mind is clearly seen to be a moral-ly evil element in man's fallen state_ In other words, this lusting flesh is the works of the devil. Hence " they that are in the flesh — sarki— cammt please God." -- Rona. S: S. If flesh meant the body, then no one could. please God in this life, and the command to c walk unto all pleas-jug" were an impossibility. But we ( mit live in the body, and at the same time not live in the fiesh-- aarkie Hence can please God in this life. We come directly to the question, " Are all men subject to temptations arising from the lusts of the flesh, as long as they remain in the body ? By the light of Divine truth, as record-in the New Testament, and confirmed by the grace of God in us, we answer em-phatically, No. Complete salvation leaves no evil bent in our entire being. No foe that prones the heart to leave the God we love. The blood of the Lamb, makes a complete sweep, and utter destruction of every fleshly lust, of every thiug that wars against the Spirit of God in us. This we HOW proceed to prove. " Knowing this, that our old man is cru-cified with him; that the body of sin might be destroyed, that, henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed train sin. Now if we be dead with Christ„ W& believe that we shall also live with Him."— Rom. 6: 6- 8. What the Apostle calls the " mind of the flesh," the Sth chapter, he here calls the " body of sin, and the old man, and de-elates that it is " crucified," put to death, t110 experimental knowledge' of perfect, love, or entire. sanctification, and' assume the position to teach others; they make a mis-erable failure, " And intrude into those things whiel t - he bath hot seen, ( nor felt) vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind."— Co1.3: 16. a' If all who are seeking a clean heart, and the " fulness of God," would cast from them, all tbe Science and Commentaries of carnal Maa, and only employ as their teachers, holy men of God, " fall of the Holy Ghost and faith," and also the " Spir-it and the Word," it would not belong ere they would be led out of the twilight. They would be like a train of cars that is trailed out of the city of Chicago, into the City of New York by the incomparible power of the locomotive to . which they are linked. So also, all who are by the Spirit joined. to the Lord, if they obey the Word and the Spirit, they would, not many days tence, be led by the infinite " power of the Spirit of holiness" out of the inferior city ( justification) into the superior city ( per-fect love, or entire sanctification). " For as many as are led by the Spirit of 0- od, ttey are the. SODS of God." Now you can see by the Word of God, that in order for us to retain our . son- ship in the Kingdom of God, and to obtain a greater degree of Spirituality and power, and to dwell under the meridian light of the Sun of righteousness in this life; we must " walk in the light as He is in the light, and the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son, cleanseth us from all sin."- 1 John 1 : S. " He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Reader, are you " complete in Him ?" Are you " perfect and entire, wanting no!. h-ing ? " If not, " This% I wish, even your perfection." Amen t July secular paper reports no small excitement in the City of Cincinnati Ohio, over what it calls a very fanatical and strange religous developmen t in that City. It appears that a lady by the name of Mrs. Martin,. for over two years past has been the leading mind in a pecular relig-ous movement, which now numbers some thirty adherents. All manner of the most extravagant stories are reported of them. Such as the assumption, on the part of Mrs. Martin, that she claims to be Christ, and her sister the Holy Spirit. The paper stated that " it is a matter of common report that the would- be Christ had a tomb erected in her house, and went through the form of pretended death and resurrection." But since we have known equally rediculous things told., and written about the true saints of God; we can easily account for all the rediculous scandaliza-tion of those people. If indeed they be true and holy children of God, we could expect nothing else but all manner of lies reported about them.. There are various reasons why we are led to hope that this is a pure work of God. Most prominent Of which is the description of their singing. " Mrs. Martin occupies a seat in the cen-ter or at the end of the room, with an open Bible in her hand. She is surrounded by the Perfect, who begin singing in a low tone, full of emotion and tenderness. As the song dies away, another is taken up and still another, until the participants seem satisfied. Two men stood close under the south window in a vacant lot adjoining the premises. There appeared to be about twenty voices in the chorus. NO SMALL STIR. —: o:— into the moat ordinary affairs of life. Her personal appearance is rather prepossess-ing, and she is a devoted wife and mother. Her husband, it is reported, takes no stock in the so called deification of his wife. He is a strict Methodist and well- known adherent of the prohibition party, having been their candidate for congress in the first district two years ago. It was cus-tomary in the early_ days of the , movement to hold the services at the different homes of the faithful, but principally at Mrs. Martin's residence. The little band grew to such proportions that it became neces-sary to find larger rooms, and Mrs. Brooks tendered her house, whicli for several weeks has been the regular meeting place. Itis not asserted that Mrs. Martin proclaims herself to ba Christ in the Spirit, but that her followers are grounded firmly in that, belief is a fixed fact. The neighbors of the Martins relate strange tales about them. One of these is that when one of the chid-ren Was very sick Mr. Martin wanted to send- for a doctor, but his Wife remonstrated. The little one was in God's hands and Re could take care of it. She predicted that if a physician came in the house the child would die, but Mr. Martin, unconvinced, sent for a doctor, and the prophecy of Mrs. Martin came to pass, for the infant died. This insident'was used by the elect as conclusive proof of her divine character. Whatever the world outside of the coterie of fanatics may think of Mrs. Martin, she surely exercises an irresis: able power over her disciples, who would obey her every wish without a murmur. If she directs them, Christ's Spirit acting through they joyfully do the bidding. Pintratti) AT GUM 3mOTION1 UICIts D. S. WARNER, and 3 C. FISHER,-- Editurs. .1: C. F/ SHER,-- Pablislier. As the salvation of the Son of God is only known as it is felt in the heart, such knowledge is experi-mental, which is more authentic than mere mental knowledge. Mental knowledge can be attained through others, but reach-es no farther than the head ; but experi-mental knowledge is direct from God alone. Dearly Beloved Brethren:— I want to tell you of the wonderful meeting we have had. ' We came here, pitched the taberna-cle and commenced meeting in the name of King Jesus. The congregations were good all the way through. Good interest all the time. , Holiness had never been preached here before. Bless God ! it has come to stay ', now. Hallelujah! When we first came, the people seemed wild. The news papers had circulated some very false things about the holy people, and the people thought they ought to be very careful. They soon found out we were not going to hurt them, so they became very tame. When the shouts began to roll from blood- washed souls, the people looked a little , affrighted, but they soon got Over that: Hallelujah! Well, the people soon found out that we preached nothing but the truth; they payed strict attention : some declared we had different Bibles from theirs. Dead, formal professors and sectarians, were greatly stirred, especially the Campbell-ites, and drunken preachers. The meet-ing closed last hight, with complete victory on the side of the Lord. The voices blended in almost divine harmony, and the vocalists sang with the most intense but suppressed fer-vor. After four or five songs had been rendered, a hymn was sung to the air of " Home Sweet Home." It reverberated upoi, the stilly night, and pedestrains on their way home paused to listen, chained to the spot ' spell- bound while the delicious music lasted." Our observation leads to the conclusion that evil spirits cannot produce sweet har-monious singing. Music is of heavenly origin, and every hellish spirit can but make grating disgusting imitation of vocal music. Even musical learning and culture are incapable of producing such sweet and melting melody as above described. If these people are indeed of God, we pan account for the many things with which they are defamed by the following facts stated of them. " A prominent Methodist divine, who occupies the most influential pulpit in the city is GriEATLY SCANDALIzED over the deplorable discovery on Hills. Several of the perfectionists were formerly members of this church, and their withdrawal caused much gossip and specu-lation as to . ahe controling motive which induced such a course. The Methodist ministers had the matter before them at their meetings quite frequently, and at-tempts were made to bring the wandering flock back into the shelter of the fold. The recalcitrants were labored with, but all to no purpose. They not only remained obdurate, but endeavored to convince the clergymen that the churches were the work of the devil, and the reverend gentlemen incompetent to teach the truth. After repeated trials, the efforts - to reclaim the deluded people were abandoned. Again. " They never take their friends to the meeting, which are not for the worldly man or woman. A majority of the sect were formerly', Methodists, but a few, notably the Carpenters, were Congre-gatiotalists. The antipathy of the Martin-ites tä the other religious denominations has doubtless provoked many of the un-pleasant stories told . about them." The " antipathy" spoken of may only' be a holy indignation against the isms of night, and a Bible separation from them. By declaring the present day sects all of the devil, they really evince the true light her, CLOSE BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP. Not the least impressive . feature among the fanatics is the close bond of friendship or infatuation which binds them to each other as well as their oracle, Mrs. Martin. They will not associate with any one out-side the society, and they never visit their old friends as was customary before the frenzy seized them." Some of the terms used this people remind us of the ancient heathen rulers and officers, when attempt-ing to prevail upon Christian martyrs to save their lives by denying Christ, they reported to their superior S that the mys-terious frenzy had taken such deep hold upon them that they. would joyfully court death rather than think of infidelity to the Lord Jesus Christ. So the blind Cin-cinnatians, ignorant of the bond of Heav-en's love, they know no better than to call that mysterious bond of Divine love exhibited by redeemed souls a strange frenzy. Their separation from their friends who are of this world, is perfectually Scrip-ttiral. Of course there are thin gs reported of these parties, we as Bible men, do not endorse. But the very writer who pub-lishes these things, admits that their op-position to the exhisting sects, is the cause of many evil things told about them. So we hope that all evil said of them is false, and that they are indeed of God. We see above, that " It is not asserted that Mrs. Martin proclaims herself to be . Christ in Spiriabut that her followers are grounded firmly in that belief, Yet the same arti-cle, speaking of the rise of the movement at the Camp Meeting, said, " It soon be-came noised about that Mrs. Martin was worshiped as Christ manifest in the flesh, and her lollowers took no trouble to deny the charge." If, then, Mrs. Martin and those worship-ing with her, all deny the report that she assumes the personality of Christ, what right have others to assert it ? Their faith in the Lord healing the sick, is another thing that exposes them to the charge of fanatics, yet this is the Bible fruits that Cluist said should follow them that believe. Mr. Martin being a " strict Methodist" would be far more apt to stand aloof from his wife, if she were of God, than if she were of the devil. Hence his iastitsi. t, u, de speaks well for the " perfection- Whatever may be the real character of this work, it seems to be making " no small stir" in that great city. The paper states that, " Revelations concerning the fanatical sect on Walnut Hill is the biggest sensa-tion Cincinnati has had for some time. " For the day of the Lord of Hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up ; and he shall be brought low. And upon every high tower, and upon ev-ery fenced wall, andethe idols He shall utterly abolish."-- Isaiah 2: 12, 15, 18. About 50 were supposed . to be killed, and many more wounded. The popula-tion sashed to the streets, and vacant squares, horror stricken, and frantic with fear, and the scene of terror was hide-scnbable. Summerville, 22 miles from Charleston, was about destroyed. The shocks extended from the Atlantic coast, west to the Mississippi, and from the northern Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico. Four great shocks shook up the city of Cleveland-. " Persons in tall buildings thought that the day of judgment had come. Desks, floors, chairs, and the build-ings themselves, seemed to be tottering like drunken men." And the people all rushed to the vacant places in the city, in much excitement. Indianapolis, Terre Haute, and other places in Ind. - Tall buildings in Chicago and St Louis, greatly swayed and trembled. Hundreds of people rushed out of large hotels, and other buildings. The greatest consterna-tion was manifest among the colored peo-ple of the - visited cities. A writer says, at Charleston, " The colored ' people every-where were loud and increasing in their manifestations of alarm, and the singing of hymns, and in fervent appeals for God's mercy, in which appeals, God knows, many a proud heart who heard them aris-ing in the night and iii the hour of His wondrous might, devoutly and humbly and sincerely joined. Danger brings all of us to the level of the lowliest." " 0 vain man, when wilt thou learn that the fear of the Lord. is the beginning of wisdom, and a good understanding have all they that do His commandments." No one knows what I passed through with but our blessed Lord. The Word says, " Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations, knowing this that the trying of your faith worketh patience." Praise God! we know that all things work togeth-er for good to them that love God. I want the prayers of God's children that I may be steadfast immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. Your Sister in Christ, saved and kept by the power of our dear Lord. • up out of their carcasses." " For my sword shall be bathed in heaven,"— the ecclesi-estical heavens, or nominal churches. " For it is the day of the Lord's vengence and the year of recompences for the con-troversy of Zion,"— verses 6, S. Read the entire chapter. " But I will remove far off from you the. northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and. his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.',-- Joel 2: 20. Word of God, I was convinced that a man, to be a true and faithful follower of God, he only wants one Master, and that is Jes-us Christ alone. Now I can praise God for a free and full salvation. My pathway grows brighter day by day, but we are tried as by fire. There are a few of us here that have borne out and stand for God alone, and we are_ praying that God will send some one here filled with the Holy Ghost and the Word of God, to let the light on the people in this place, for baby-lon is badly shaken here; they don't know what to do. - Praise our God for His wonderful Spirit and power he bestowes upon His children that are true to Him. We wantthe prayers of all the saints of God that wemay always be faithful. Now we are holding on to God by prayer and faith, that He will send some one in this part of His field; for there is some wheat here ripe to harvest. Your Bro. fully saved and kept by the power of God. John Harm —. ens • and trials to contend with, but the Llt., 1 keeps me saved flirt Hi g. 1 t. tetn all. Praise His holy name foiever! In your patience pes-sess ye your souls. May the Lord keep:, us patient through all trials, that we stand firm for Jesus; for He is able to keep unto the end. I am all sold out to Jesus, and no Ions ger am my own, for I am bought with His, own precious blood. Pray for me that I n ay live low aid humble at my Master's feet. Your Sister.:-.' in Christ, saved and wholly sanctified. Jennie Wight.. The northern army is the army of Gog, and Magog, see Ezekiel 38: 14, 15; 39: 11. This army is to come up in the " latter days." See Eze. 38: 8, 16. His corning from the north signified cold religion. " Having a form of godli-ness, but denying the power ; from such turn away." Ezekiel says, his vile car-cass " shall stop the noses of the passen-gers." That is, he is so loathful that men passing by, hold their noses, because of the stench, and Joel 2: 20, comes out still plainer. So our brother can see that if we have used " filthy language," as he thinks, so does the Bible. The Lord save that Bro. from his false fastidiousness. The word for which he jud ges us, occurs many times in the Bible, beside the few instances cited. The fact is, the Word of God, in expos-ing the rotten works of the devil, speaks right out in plain language, and as the old prophet Micah said, " As the Lord liveth, what the Lord saith, that will I say." Let not your hearts be troubled. The Word of the Lord is right. And by the grace of God we will not allow the devil, or any man or woman accuse us for speak-ing out as God speaks. ris ILL SAVOR. —: o: Brother writes us how much his heart was pained at our use of such . words as " nasty" and " stinking," in speaking of the rottenness of babylon, and filthiness of tobacco using, etc. He says, " Such words do not agree with the spirit that I believe God has given me." - . It almost made me sick." " This is very unclean language." etc, We should love to write the brother a good long letter, for we believe him sin-cere, and conscientious. But as time is short, and a part of what I would write him, would probably be of general bene-fit, we will write a few things in reply in this way. We say to our brother that we know exactly what Spirit we are of. That we abide in Christ, and His Spirit and His Words abide in as. But in all kindness we say to our brother, you are not in theclear and. perfect light of God. The spirit that tortured your mind in reading those words is not of God. It was an angel of light, or counterfeit spirit from satan. We have come up through all those deceptive spir-its, which so much distress even honest and conscientious souls, and have learned, by the things we have suffered, to , know them every time. We can discern them either by speech or by writing. The Bro. does not seem to be sure himself what spirit it was that distressed him. He says that our language was against the " spirit which he believed God had given him." The real Spirit of God does not talk that way. He knows absolutely whence He is. We seldom get letters from brethren correcting us through any counterfeit an-gel of light, but what we lead therein that their eyes are upon men, to sonic extent, or that they are interassociated, or mixed up with antichrist elements. The brother writes about another man who rejects the ordinances of Christ, at least some of I hem, who was also dissatisfied with the TRUMP-ET, and did not want to take it any longer, because of a few objectionable features, but in the main confessed that he liked it better than any other paper. Well we expect all such men to give up their her-esies, or give up the TRUMPET. De says, " All the saints here expect myself. and one other brother object to feetwashing." Now we say plainly, no saint objects to feetwashing. A saint is a holy, or sancti-fied person, and the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier, and He leads us into all truth. " Thy Word is truth." Now the Word of Jesus Christ, positively teaches and en-joins the washing of the saints feet, as a command of the Lord Jesus Christ. God's saints may not have been taught this du-ty, but no saint of God rejects it. ? or as soon as it is presented to the mind of a holy man, the Spirit of God which institu-ted the commend, being in his heart says amen to the truth. Because " He guides us into all truth." But the spirit that op-poses, and rejects truth after presented to the mind, is not of God. As long as there are conflicting doctrines, the parties have not come fully out of babylon, for when He brings again Zion, thy watchmen shall see eye to eye.— Isa. 52-: S. Is it true that the language used is contrary to the Scriptures. It is probable we would not have used it, had we not found st so applied in God's Word. Thus saith the Lord, " I have neele t lie stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils, yet have ye not returned limo me, saith the Lord."— Amos 4: 10. The chapter treats on the abominations, and baekslidings of ancient Israel, which is fully anti- typed in the rottenness of the present day apostasy. Have ' We not seen babylon camps send up a stench of tobac-co smoke that fully meets the above de- 1, scription. " Come near, ye nations, to hear ; and hearken, ye people : let the earth hear, and. all that is therein ; the world, and all things that come forth of it. For the in-dignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: He hath utterly destroyed them, He bath de-livered them. to the slaughterer. Their akin also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with . their blood."--- Isa. 34: 1- 3. This is present, awful truth. To- day " the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations," and all false religion is given to the slaughterer. And the whole earth is strewn with carcasses, who have been cut off by the Sword. The Word of the Lord, is now being poured out without mixture; the real vials of God's wrath upon bab-ylon. And it does not hurt the conscience of God to: say that " their stink shall come MAPLE . Not writing to any sect name, but to the Church of Christ. They were not Churches in the sense that they differed one from the other. They were the Church of Christ located at these different places; because the One Church or fold could not all be in onet place. It is the devil that teaches that the seven Churches of Asia represented seven different denominations or sects. The tord has undertaken by the Holy Ghost, through His saints; in these last days, to set this matter right in the minds of the people. it is clear to all the sanc-tified that all these sect names are confu-sion, and represent spiritual babylon; and babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city ; because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.- Rev. 14: 8. The night before her peacefadeparture she passed through a great struggle. Friends thought she was dying. But when all was over, she was filled with indescribable joy, and praised God aloud. The latter he calls the " flesh"— sarka, in verse 18, and " sin, that dwelleth in the" in verse 20. And though he per-, sonated himself . in the picture of this chapter, he applies the lesson to- the Re-man brethren in chapter 8: 12,. 13. And positively testifies that he, himself was at that time " free from the law of sin and death."- 8: 2. And in verse 13, he tells them plainly . that the existence of this evil element in us was not the moral state of the Christian : but that' " through the Spirit" received in adoption, they' should " mortify"— put to death, in other transla-tions—" the deeds of the body."— i. e., the " body of sin" or fleih. WALKERTON, IND. . Dear Brethren:— The Spirit leads me to write. Many long, weary years I wan dered in darkness, trying to serve God but never had the assurance that. I was saved. Nancy Tay/ or. DANIEL. NEw PITTSBURG, IND. Dear Brethren:— Praise our God forev-er! I am saved and sanctified. Glory be to Jesus for salvation that keeps me all the time ! Bro. Amen! ASSEMBLY NEAR MERRILL MICH. The Lord willing there will be an 11E-sembly of the saints, held in the new log house which we are just finishing, one mile east and half a'n- iile north of Merrill, Sag-maw Co. Mich. That evening we took pass-age on the magnificent Steamer, " City of Cleveland" and crossed Lake Erie, from Detroit to Cleveland Ohio, where we ar-rived early in the morning, and came by train to Stoneboro, where we were met by Bro. Elder, and companion who were made glad by our coming. Thanks be to God! who keepeth us in all His ways. We are now in the, field, awaiting marching orders. Pray for us. Farewell JOSEPH. Shelley. • Lust means " carnal appetite" " strong desire" etc. " The lusts of the flesh" really means the lusts of the body of sin, the sinward bent of man's fallen, depraved nature. 6: 6- 8. What the Apostle calls the " mind of the flesh" the Sth chapter, he here calls the " body of sin, and the old man, and de-elates that it is " crucified" put to death, t110 experimental knowledge' of perfect, love, or entire. sanctification, and' assume the position to teach others; they make a mis-erable failure, " And intrude into those things whiel t - he bath hot seen, ( nor felt) vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind."— Co1.3: 16. a' If all who are seeking a clean heart, and the " fulness of God" would cast from them, all tbe Science and Commentaries of carnal Maa, and only employ as their teachers, holy men of God, " fall of the Holy Ghost and faith" and also the " Spir-it and the Word" it would not belong ere they would be led out of the twilight. When we first came, the people seemed wild. The news papers had circulated some very false things about the holy people, and the people thought they ought to be very careful. When the shouts began to roll from blood- washed souls, the people looked a little , affrighted, but they soon got Over that: Hallelujah! It is the theme of every tongue, and was dismissed in its various phases by thous-ands of people yesterday, not only in this city, but on the trains . and outside towns." the earth. " St. Michael's Church, and St. Phillip's Church, two of the most his-toric churches in the city, are in ruins." " The steeple of the Unitarian Church has fallen." As it is written, " I have Cut off the nations ; their towers are desolate."— Zeph. 3. The shocks were felt more, or less, heavy, at Columbus, Cincin-nati, Canton, Massillon, Dayton, Youngs-town, Toledo, Mansfield, and many Other places throughout Ohio. Danger brings all of us to the level of the lowliest." " 0 vain man, when wilt thou learn that the fear of the Lord. is the beginning of wisdom, and a good understanding have all they that do His commandments." See Eze. So our brother can see that if we have used " filthy language" as he thinks, so does the Bible. —: o: Brother writes us how much his heart was pained at our use of such . words as " nasty" and " stinking" in speaking of the rottenness of babylon, and filthiness of tobacco using, etc. Their akin also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcasses, and the mountains shall be melted with . their blood."--- Isa. 34: 1- 3. This is present, awful truth. To- day " the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations" and all false religion is given to the slaughterer. And the whole earth is strewn with carcasses, who have been cut off by the Sword. The Word of the Lord, is now being poured out without mixture; the real vials of God's wrath upon bab-ylon. And it does not hurt the conscience of God to: say that " their stink shall come MAPLE .
